April 19, 2013 - Beirut, Lebanon
We at ITG recognize that our activities and those of the private sector have an impact on society, and we are conscious of our Corporate Social Responsibility.
More than a year ago, in February 2012, ITG (Holding) launched a set of ‘green initiatives’. This was done through a conference gathering top management and the ITG Green Committee, in collaboration with T.E.R.R.E. Liban. Subjects covered included: Sustainable development, ITG CSR, ITG commitment to Go Green and related actions, state of the environment in Lebanon, its richness, threats and solutions.
The aim of the conference was to raise awareness of ITG’s employees, with respect to their responsibility toward the environmental issues, create a positive influence, and finally get their support in implementing a set of concrete actions, to help preserve Lebanon natural resources.
One of the launched projects is the ‘Paper Recycling’ project, which is not only about recycling but about the 3Rs: Reducing paper use, Re-using and finally Recycling. The aim is to fight massive consumption of paper, save and plant trees by recycling paper, and of course reduce ITG’s operational costs.
For every 60kg of recycled paper, ITG plants one tree and saves one tree. So after 14 months of implementation, ITG was capable of collecting 7,730Kg of paper for recycling, saved 128 trees and planted another 128 trees.
In a ‘Paper Recycling’ Ceremony held by T.E.R.R.E. Liban on February 19, 2013, celebrating five years of continuous success and achievements in paper recycling, Mr. Paul Abi Rached, President T.E.R.R.E. Liban, thanked all companies that helped achieving this success. ITG received a ‘Certificate for Recycling’ 4,590kg of papers in 2012, and saving 78 trees.
So far, the investment showed a great success and this is due to the efforts put in by every member of ITG who see this as an extension of their role within the company and the Lebanese society. Thank you ITG members.
After all ‘ITG’ stand for ‘I Think Green’! This slogan was adopted some years ago to confirm ITG commitments toward the environment.
About the importance of Trees: Tree not only provide us with wood, paper, fruits, nuts, shade, natural beauty and a buffer against noise, they play an important role in Earth's natural cycles. Trees capture carbon from atmospheric carbon dioxide, and release oxygen. Trees also help prevent flooding and help control soil erosion.
