November 23, 2016 – Beirut, Lebanon
ECOsys, part of ITG (Holding), and a provider of world-class renewable energy & power solutions, finalized the implementation of a solar photovoltaic system at Food & Drug Corporation (FDC) in Choueifat.
The project is financed by the "National Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Action" (NEEREA), a national financing mechanism initiated by the Central Bank of Lebanon, dedicated to the financing of green energy projects in Lebanon, and funded by Fransabank.
This is the first commercial scale project for a distribution company in Lebanon, where 968 panels are installed over 2 separate roofs, covering electricity consumption of offices and warehouse areas, with a total capacity of 307 KWp. The system is expected to produce 320 megawatt-hours of energy yearly, with a CO2 saving of 225 tons/year.
The overall project required a team of 15 persons from engineers and technicians. The main project challenge was related to connecting both buildings. The solution is fully operational since November 2016. The estimated investment payback period is of 7.8 years.
The overall system components from word leading brands, include PV panels from TrinaSolar, state-of-the-art solar mounting systems from Schletter, solar PV inverters from Kaco, and PV panels monitoring system from Solar-Log.
“ECOsys worked hard before the project to come up with a solution that met our requirements. FDC, as part of its sustainability strategy, specifically on the environmental side, was keen to have a Photovoltaic system as a showcase for renewable energy technologies. We were pleased that ECOsys helped us design & implement the solution. The team was professional, efficient and helpful throughout the lifecycle of the project. During installation, they did not interrupt our businesses and their health & safety practices were spot on. I would be more than happy to work with ECOsys again on our upcoming project.” said Mr. Ali Harkous, Facilities & Procurement Management at FDC.
“As ECOsys views it, the facility of FDC is operated by pioneers in the Lebanese market, as they are constantly thinking of using and applying the leading technological advancements, making their everyday operations most efficient and considerate from the humanitarian and environmental stand points. The PV system makes use of the empty roof areas intelligently. The first challenge was the splitting of the solar system between two building roofs implying a disjointed electrical system. The second challenge was the energy management system that controls the level of PV penetration, considering the drastic seasonal variations in the facilities load”, said Elie Maalouf, Operations Manager of ECOsys.
