June 23, 2017 - Beirut, Lebanon
In June 2017, as part of ITG CSR plan for 2017, the company hosted an awareness campaign for organ donation in partnership with the National Organization for Organ & Tissue Donation & Transplantation (NOD).
The conference was held by Ms. Farida Younan, Project Manager at NOD-Lb, founder and actual President of the Middle East Transplant Coordinators Organization (METCO). Ms. Younan started her presentation by defining “Brain Death”, she then proceeded by informing the attendees on the process of organ donation from the donor and the receiver side. She ended her presentation with a testimonial video of a father whose son donated his organs. A Q&A session followed.
At the end of the session, applications were distributed to those interested, the majority filled them and became members of the NOD. Finally, as a mean to encourage the organization, ITG purchased the NOD bracelets that were distributed to the attendees.
NOD-Lb is a governmental organization working under the umbrella of the Minister of Health (MOH). It was created by ministerial decree in 1999 (decree 509/1). The Lebanese Code of Medical Ethics (2012, Code 240, art 30) designated NOD-Lb as the only social body responsible for supervising all organs, tissues and cells donation and transplantation activities in Lebanon.
NOD-Lb supervises the application of the Lebanese donation and transplantation system for organs, tissues and human cells in the Lebanese hospitals. NOD-Lb is responsible to develop continuous education for health professionals and to promote organ and tissue donation to the general public.
NOD-Lb makes sure that every patient receives the treatment he/she needs, provided that safety, medical ethics and equity are respected. Being the authority of reference it has to maintain a high degree of expertise in all subjects related to organ donation and transplantation.
