Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and ECOsys (an ITG Company), in partnership with ASIC ( Advanced Science & Innovation Company) UAE , had a common goal to power Berbera Somaliland based on clean, affordable and reliable solar power to reduce the dependency on diesel generators which constitute the grid’s main source of power and results in high electricity costs.
Our flexible team of experts at ECOsys can adapt to any environment challenges and unforeseen events, and are reliable to deliver projects with the highest standards.
Despite the COVID19 pandemic that slowed down many of the shipments, ECOsys team was able to implement and handover the 7,000 kWp project in 7 months, over 44,300 m2 without any changes nor delays.
The sustainable and clean energy system installed is expected to produce 11.8 GWh of energy yearly leading to a total of 7,670 tons of CO2 savings per year.
The 7 MWp photovoltaic power plant operates in parallel with BEC (Berbera Electricity Company) utility grid in Berbera, Somaliland. The system consists of 17,724x 395W monocrystalline PV panels from Jinko Solar, ground-mounted and connected to 34 Huawei grid-inverters (185 KTL) decentralized over the plant, installed under the PV panels. The inverters are grouped together into 2 LV totalizing panels. The output AC power cable of each totalizing panel is connected to an 11kV/0.8 kV step up transformer that is then connected to an MV switchgear. The 2 MV switchgears are connected together and their output AC power cable is connected to BEC station. Moreover, a centralized Energy Management System (Fuel Save Controller) is connected to the BEC station along with a monitoring system (by Huawei) that communicates with all inverters through network cables for a proper tracking of the energy produced.
